ThE RBF APPROACH

RBF cares passionately about ensuring that every child is able to explore and fulfil their potential. As such, in offering these online courses we look to create an exciting and engaging environment where children are free to learn at their own pace with tutors who focus on each individuals needs. Activities and challenges will be set each week to support your child in reaching their targets with check in sessions each week with their tutor to work on any specific things they need support with.

RBF online courses also benefit from the fact that they are part of a much wider group of projects for children and young people led by the charity, so whenever possible we will bring staff from other activities that RBF leads to run special sessions including performing/creative arts, sports, marvellous mathematics, and more to supplement your childs learning whilst ensuring the courses are fun and engaging.

If you would like to apply for a Foundation place, please contact office@rbf.org.uk. Please note that each application is assessed against the current demand for places, the level of hardship being experienced by the families who have applied and whether an RBF setting is the best place for the children's needs to be met.
Through Accelerating Progress programmes, students complete engaging challenges, collect evidence of their work and identify skills development.
The course supports development of the key skills that hold learners back from gaining a grade 4 or 5. Each learner will receive a login for the e-portfolio, where they will be able to view challenges, upload evidence and access resources.
The e-portfolio shows learners’ recent activity and which challenge they need to move on to next.
Accelerating Progress: English

The course will challenge students to develop higher-order reading and critical thinking skills. This will support learners in formulating and expressing their own opinions – one of the key requirements of the new GCSE.

Our tutors work with the individuals in each group to ensure that the course is taught in a way that works for the young people whilst boosting engagement, motivation and enthusiasm. Experience shows that students who have choice in the classroom are more likely to take ownership of their learning.
They were selected following teacher feedback, exam script analysis and reviewing the outcomes from a range of students in Years 10 and 11. These skills are:
-
understanding the purpose of a text
-
understanding the audience a text is written for
-
explaining the effects of language and structure
-
understanding writers’ choices, such as point of view
-
being able to retrieve information
Accelerating Progress: Maths

The programme has been written by a practising mathematics specialist with experience in helping learners make progress and realise their full potential.
Accelerating Progresss supports learners to develop the skills required for the problem solving element of questions within the current mathematics specification – the problem solving element is an issue that many students need extra support with.
Students complete engaging challenges, collect evidence of their work and identify skills development. The challenges in the mathematics programme have a contextual approach, applying subject material to day-to-day events. This reflects the greater emphasis in the mathematics GCSE on applying new skills and knowledge to real-life problems and situations.
